Devon - Chief Superintendent Jo Tennant BCU Commander
Neighbourhood Policing Teams "Devon is committed to delivering a policing service that reflects the different needs and concerns of local communities". To achieve this, Neighbourhood Policing Teams have been established in local communities, supported by additional 24-hour patrolling officers and specialist officers such as detectives, dog-handlers and traffic-officers.
Working Together Devon's' dedicated Neighbourhood Policing Teams seek to involve the public in identifying its main neighbourhood and policing concerns. This provides a means of public influence of how issues are prioritised and tackled. "We can’t do this alone; all members of the public including residents, young people and local businesses have an active part to play in identifying these concerns, in being part of joint problem-solving responses and in holding local policing teams to account".
Equally, partner agencies such as the Local Authorities and Health have a crucial role working with us to improve the quality of life in local communities. Devon remains one of the safest places to live. "I am confident that this joint approach will assist in building neighbourhoods where crime is low, that are safe and that feel safe".
Getting to Know Us... "If you haven’t already done so, I encourage you to seek out your own Neighbourhood Policing Team and discuss your community policing concerns and needs with them, so that together we can continue to build a safer Devon".
Jo Tennant Chief Superintendent - Devon BCU
Interesting Statistics The Devon Basic Command Unit (the county of Devon excluding Plymouth) is made up of: - 1270 police officers - 500 police staff (including 173 PCSOs - Police Community Support Officers) - Over 300 Special Constables.
"More people work in dedicated Neighbourhood Policing Teams than ever before, each providing a consistent visible, accessible and known presence in your neighbourhood".

Tavistock police set to move to new base
POLICE in Tavistock could be moving to a new, purpose-built station just off the town centre, it was announced this week. Devon and Cornwall Police are currently in negotiations involving the purchase of land in Abbey Rise, at the old Superwinch site. West Devon Sector Inspector Dave Hammond this week confirmed the location in which the police are hoping to build their new premises — but stressed that contracts had not yet been exchanged on the purchase. See Tavistock Gazette for more details.
South Brent Raiders THREE generations of the same family, including a three-year-old child, were terrorised in their own South Devon home by masked raiders who made off with a valuable haul of jewellery. The two women, mother and daughter, were ordered to kneel by the three balaclava-clad captors after they burst into their remote moorland home at Didworthy on Saturday morning. The three-year-old granddaughter was in the same room as her grandmother, who was tied up before the raiders began searching the large detached house for valuables. The thieves kept the family captive for up to 20 minutes before they fled in a silver coloured car.
Police are appealing for help from anyone who may have witnessed the getaway or seen the three men in the area of the small Dartmoor hamlet where the raid took place.
Police are still waiting to find out exactly what was stolen and its total value, but one item which may stand out was a small, silver pill box with enamel budgerigars on the top.
Anyone with any information is asked to please call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111, quoting crime ref. JS/09/923.
